Ajay
Bhatt :
One of the most unsung technology pioneers is Ajay Bhatt, an
Indian-American computer architect who is credited as being the father of the
USB standard – something that almost every computing device uses today in some
form or another.
In 2009, Intel proclaimed Bhatt as
a rock star of tech through a TV advert - despite Bhatt being played by an
actor it pushed his profile into the public spotlight. View video
Vinod Dham :
Intel was not short of talented Indians. The father
of the famous Intel Pentium processor, Vinod Dham, originally hailed from Pune
in India.
Vinod Khosla
In 1982 he co-found Sun
Microsystems along with Stanford alumni Scott McNealy and Andy Bechtolsheim, as
well as Bill Joy
Sabeer Bhatia
Another pioneering web service, Hotmail, was founded
by an Indian technology talent who emigrated to the US in the 1980s.
Bhatia linked up with a colleague,
Jack Smith, to launch Hotmail in 1996, which became one of the biggest email
providers in the world and was bought by Microsoft in 1998.
Vinod Gupta
Vinod Gupta is the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of info GROUP
(previously known as info USA.
Mr. Gupta served as CEO of the company from the time of its incorporation in 1972
until September 1997 and from August 1998 to August 2008 Borrowing $100 from a bank to get
started, it has grown from a one-man operation to a global employer of over
5,000 with revenues of $750 million. During this period he acquired over 45
companies. InfoGroup was sold in July 2010 for $680 million.
There are other younger generation
people who helped to keep the Indian Flag flying high. Some of them are Vic Gundotra creator of Googl plus , Ruchi Sanghavi first lady engineer hired
by Facebook, Pamasree Warriar COO of
Motorola, and presently COO of CISCO. Navneet
Panda the creator of Google Panda which revolutionized the search algorithms
and helped remove the threat of artificial
manipulation of SEO rankings by certain
agencies. Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi is an Indian-born, naturalized American, business executive and the current Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo, the second largest food and beverage business in the world by net revenue. She has consistently ranked among the World's 100 Most Powerful Women. In 2014, she was ranked 13 in the list of Forbes World's 100 most powerful women. Vikram Shankar Pandit is an Indian-born American banker He is the former chief executive of Citigroup, a position he held from December 2007 until he resigned October 16, 2012.
He holds a B.S. and M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, and MBA and Ph.D in Finance from Columbia Business School. Pandit, a naturalized citizen of the United States. Arun Sarin is an Indian-born American executive. Sarin was the former CEO of the telecom giant - Vodafone Group plc, serving from 2003 till 2008. He was the driving force behind the Vodafone's strategic move into emerging markets - especially Asia and Africa; through the purchases such as that of Turkish operator Telsim, and a controlling stake in Hutchison Essar in India. He is currently a senior advisor at the private equity firm KKR. He also serves on the board of directors of Cisco Systems, Charles Schwab and Safeway, Inc.
Sarin, a naturalized American citizen and resident, received an honorary knighthood from the Queen at Buckingham Palace on 10 March 2010.
There are many such unsung heroes
